We’re sure you have many questions about the NYC Scholars Program at Adelphi.
Below are some of the most frequently asked questions we anticipate from students and their families.
You and your fellow NYC Scholars will reside at St. George Towers in Brooklyn Heights. See the Housing and Student Life page for more information.
Your safety and peace of mind are paramount. St. George Towers provides a 24-hour main-entry security desk and surveillance, and student key cards are needed for entrance to the building and to individual rooms. Staff from Adelphi’s Office of Residential Life and Housing will be on site, and prior to move-in, you’ll attend a workshop on safety in the city provided by Adelphi’s Department of Public Safety and Transportation.
We do not offer meal plans as part of the NYC Scholars Program. Please budget for your meals
It may. Meet with your adviser to be sure that the program’s course work is required for your degree. If it is not, it could affect your enrollment status and your aid eligibility.
Any Adelphi University undergraduate student who is interested living, learning, and working in New York City should participate in this program. Each courses includes highly New York City immersive experiences and opportunities for learning. The internship experience will provide NYC scholars a chance to experience a structured, professional work environment. NYC scholars will also participate in a robust co-curricular experience designed to further connect students to the rich cultural, artistic, business, and philanthropic communities of New York City.
Adelphi University undergraduate students who have completed at least one semester at our Garden City campus are eligible to participate. Students must also have at least 15 credits in elective courses unused and available prior to starting the NYC Scholars semester. Applications for the Fall 2017 cohort were due February 15, 2017. Spring 2018 applications are due September 15, 2017.
The NYC Scholars Program calendar mirrors Adelphi University’s academic calendar. Move-in will occur the week before the semester begins.
Students will have access to all of the support they receive at Adelphi University’s Garden City campus. Those in need of special accommodations should contact the Student Access Office.
The NYC Scholars Program works closely with the Center for Career and Professional Development to secure internships. When applying to the program, you must submit your résumé and choose an internship placement preference. You may be asked to meet with the Center for Career and Professional Development.
